The 2007 Little Guy wrestling season has begun, and the Valier Mat Burner team has 39 members ranging in age from four to 11 years old. With this impressive number of wrestling, and the downsizing of the VHS wrestling room through the years, more space is needed for the growing team.

This Sunday, Feb. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, the Mat Burners will serve a pancake breakfast in the VHS multi-purpose room to raise funds to replace the pool cover.
In the past, the pool was used in the winter for wrestling practice, and is now needed again due to the size of the Mat Burner team. According to Jody Habel, the approximate cost to install new pool covers will be just over $5,000. The high school has committed to paying $3,000 of that cost, which means the Mat Burners must come up with $2,000 more before construction can begin.
According to Habel, the breakfast will have a donation only fee, and will be all-you-can-eat. All proceeds from the pancake breakfast will go towards the pool covers, as well as any donations the club receives.
A three-person board was formed at the beginning of the wrestling season, made up of Habel, Scott Curry and Joe Monroe. The three will be in charge of the fundraising for the pool covers, as well as helping to put together a Little Guy tournament in Valier.
The club is also still taking donations of wrestling singlets, shoes and any other equipment for those that do not have the proper equipment to wrestle.
To donate equipment or cash to fund the pool project, contact Curry at One Stop Cenex at 279-3600 or Cary DeBoo at Wells Fargo Bank at 279-3225.
